Any project at home benefits from a thoughtful plan. And a good renovation plan benefits a home owner greatly.
Your investment in your home deserves a plan that will maximize your lifestyle and minimize inconvenience. When your plan is created and then built with functional and visual aesthetic sensitivity, you benefit through timeliness, and value. A plan is created by listening to your needs and understanding your home, so that you will feel confident that your lifestyle needs will be met in the best way possible. Whether your challenge is in solving the storage puzzle, or creating more living space, or connecting and opening the indoor and outdoor living areas, our design/build team will walk you through the design and bring our professionalism and experience to benefit you and your home.
The best project you’ll ever experience first-hand is the one that is designed for your success. At Indoor Outdoor Guy, we provide a design service that listens, brings fresh ideas, and paves the way for a predictable and successful renovation.
The Indoor Outdoor Guy Renovations offers a wide range of design services, including additions, exterior design, interior design, custom house design, laneway house design, drafting, plans and permit acquisition. One of our specialties, is adding additons to older homes while at the same time reworking the exisiting floor plan to give the clients more space and an overall more functional modern home. Another of our specialties is the redesign and/or restoration of character homes or the conversion of an existing home to a character home design. Another one of our areas of interest is the design of outdoor living spaces (backyard structures including decks, pergolas, and sheds).
We are always interested in the big picture and our first desire is to design a plan that covers your entire house and property, however we are always happy as well to design a single structure for you, such as deck or a pergola. Although we do a great deal of traditional design and construction work, we are also involved in timber frame, modern and green building projects.
Character House Design (Gulston Project)
When the client came to us initially she wanted a larger home that she could share with her two young children and her mother, that would be built at a reasonable price. As we entered the design phase with the client it became clear to our delight that she liked the style of character homes and the clean look of fiber cement siding. Through consultation with the client we created a design that was open concept and used the floor space very efficiently. The main floor includes an open concept kitchen, dining room and living room area, as well as a playroom, study and powder room. The second floor has a master bedroom with lounge area, two children's bedrooms and a spacious bathroom. The ground level contains a one bedroom suite with separate bathroom, kitchen, bedroom and living room. The house has a shared laundry room on the ground level.
Character House Renovation Design (Ericson / Chappel Project)
The goal of this project was to transform the clients vinyl sided home into a beautiful character home. As part of this project the front porch was opened up and the back porch replaced with a deck to allow more light into the home, as well as to change the overall appearance of the house.

Pergola Design (Cormorant Court Project)
The design & construction of the pergola was the second phase of the clients desired outdoor living space. The deck was built five years previous to this photo and was completely sanded down as part of this phase. The Indoor Outdoor Guy went through a detailed design process with the client to help the client choose the design she envisioned. Our design team, based on the client's initial input and requirements prepared four different designs, of which the client selected one that was further customized. The design of the pergola features Japanese arches and an interlocking timber frame design. The pergola was built out of solid cedar and painted white to match the trim details on the house. Glass was added to two sides of the pergola to provide a windbreak in the fall and spring. The pergola was also designed to shade the living room in the home from the southern exposure, as well as providing a shaded outdoor space.
Small Building Design (Kooyman Project)
For this project, the client desired a custom designed outdoor workspace that would be separate from her home, where she could focus on her accounting business. The design of this small building incorporates a number of windows and a door with glass to allow the primary lighting source to be natural. The floor plan, which dictated the exterior dimensions of the building was designed to the optimum dimensions for office furniture
