Richmond Two Storey Kitchen & Master Bedroom Addition

This renovation involved the construction of an 8 X 25 foot two storey addition onto the back of an existing home as well as interior renovations to better utilize the existing floor space and connect it to the new addition. During the design process, three primary concerns for the renovation were identified. First, a spacious kitchen where the husband and wife could both comfortably cook together, second, a covered outside eating area where the clients could spend family time outdoors with their teenaged children during the spring, fall and summer without interruption from the rain, and third, a master bedroom suite with a 5 piece bathroom and a walk-in closet where they could escape to from their teenaged children. Like all our design/build projects, this renovation went through our design, consultation, and permit phase before construction commenced.

Larger Kitchen on Second Floor of Addition

As mentioned above, the primary focus of this kitchen was that it be large enough and functional enough for two people to cook in there at the same time. As part of this design, this kitchen includes both a clean up sink and a prep sink. Both sinks can be used independently, allowing one spouse to prepare the vegetables and the other to prepare the dessert or main course. Lighting was carefully considered to make the kitchen as usable as possible and additional task lighting was added over both of the sinks. The kitchen also features resilient, soft under the feet cork flooring, natural granite countertops, and maple shaker door style cabinetry. Covered Porch with Timber Accents

The clients wanted a covered outdoor space that was large enough that they could eat with their teenaged sons outside without having to worry about an early spring rain or a fall downpour interrupting their family time. The clients really liked the Timber Frame work we had done on other jobs and wanted us to incorporate that feature into their home. As always, we are happy to incorporate Timber Frame into our projects because we love wood and other natural building products as we find they are relaxing and soothing to the soul. The deck also features a durable, solid surface, vinyl floor that is sloped away from the house and easy to wash and hose down.

Master Bedroom with Sitting Area, 5 Piece Bathroom & Walk-In Closet

The clients wanted a master bedroom that was essentially a separate suite in their home where they could retreat to and have privacy. The wanted the suite to contain not only a master bedroom and 5 piece bathroom, but also a sitting area and a walk in closet. The master bedroom is large enough to accommodate king sized bed and a sitting area with two arm chairs and an end table. The master bedroom also features a large bedroom as well as a door that leads to the clients' raised garden beds and greenhouse. The 5 piece bathroom features a custom, built-in shower with a rain head and a detachable shower wand. The bathroom also features a free-standing soaker tub with a tub filler and hand wand. The entire bathroom floor and the tub surround is quarried marble tile. The large bathroom vanity features his and hers sinks, five drawers and two door cabinets for maximum storage.
