The clients had a couple of teenagers who were transitioning from high school to college. The clients wanted a multipurpose space that they could use for storage and that their kids could use as an area to hang out with friends or play games. This multipurpose room and garage satisfied the need for more usable space and additional storage area.
This 384 square foot bonus room has a fully finished, Craftsman style exterior with HardieFibre cement siding and wood fascia. A set of French doors and two good sized windows allow for an abundance of sunlight. The garage door allows this family to move almost anything into their bonus room, whether it be a ping pong table or a complicated furniture assembly box from Ikea.
The room is fully insulated and has a drywall and paint finish. Attic trusses were used for the roof to allow for a large storage room above the open area. As part of this project the backyard was redesigned into an outdoor living space. This included a new patio area as well as raised, basalt, stacked stone gardens. Outdoor lighting was built in to extend the number of hours in a day the area could be used. A sprinkler system was installed to keep the gardens watered and low maintenance. The patio is comprised of interlocking paving stones with the La Jolla blend for the field and a charcoal color for the edge.
